An example of what trivia treasures you can find

An example of what the trivia treasure hunt will find
The current month's quiz has a picture in it's 20th Century Architecture section in the Arts Category and it is a picture of a building that is shaped like a ship. Complete Trivia has it all.
    ship shaped building

The clues are it's shape - the fact that it is ship shaped, that it was built in the 20th century, that it has an outside elevator and a penthouse and a balcony probably overlooking a view and it isn't in among a lot of city buildings but as there is a skyscraper in the background it is probably on the outskirts of a city.

I started my search with ship shaped building, I added outside elevator, I added penthouse, I tried liner rather than ship and I have been searching for two hours without a result. Could someone please give me another clue!I tried building shape ship, architecture ship, both those together and a few other combinations, still no result. This is a tough one.

The thing about this trivia treasure hunt is that the answer isn't all you have to find. While you are looking you are actually surfing the web and enjoying what you find. Here's some interesting sites I found today by looking for a ship shaped building.A site on Titanic, many blogs about architects, landlocked ships, an article on 90ft waves, many, many, many buildings that are shaped like a ship but not the one in the picture.

I wrote an article with the links here if you want to see some of the trivia treasures I found.

    Trivia Treasure Hunt

Did you know that the word trivia comes from the latin word that means a three road junction or something that is common. That in medieval university studies it was used for grammer, rhetoric and logic, the lower division of the seven liberal arts? Yet another piece of trivia! I've included the definitions below.

    Trivial definitions.

    Trivia
    Pronounced: /'triveeuh/ plural noun
Meaning: inessential, unimportant, common, everyday, ordinary, familiar, trite, paltry, of no value or petty details and considerations, inconsequential things; trifles; trivialities, trivial details, matters or remarks.

    Trivial
    Pronounced: /'triveeuhl/ adjective
    Meaning
        1.    of little importance; trifling; insignificant.
        2.    commonplace, ordinary.
        3.     Biology (of names of animals and plants) denoting the specific name, as distinguished from a generic, of an organism in binomial nomenclature;     A common or Latin name added to the generic name to distinguish the species, for example “ the trivial name for the whole family of terns is ‘sea-swallow’”
       4.     Math (of the solutions of a set of homogenous equations) having zero values for all the variables

    Derivation
[late ME relating to the trivium, ad Latin trivialis],
[New Latin TRIVIA plural of TRIVIUM]
    1.    In the Middle Ages, medieval university studies, the lower division of the seven liberal arts, comprising grammar, rhetoric and logic.
    2.    From TRIVIUM, (TRI - tri (three) + VIA – road or way, a place where three ways meet.) Crossroads, junction of three roads.
    3.    From TRIVIALIS belonging to the public streets, common,

    Also used
Triviality, pronounced: /trivee'aluhtee/, noun. Trivially pronounced: /trivee’aelee/, adverb. Trivialize pronounced: /trivee’uhluyz/. verb

But the definition of Complete Trivia is far more exciting and something quite uncommon. Were I pedantic I might say something like:-

    Complete Trivia
    Meaning:
    1. An exceptional, extraordinary, uncommon, extremely important essential online quiz for trivia fans and trivia maniacs everywhere. Composed in Australia, available for access over the Internet and consisting of a complete subject range of trivia (see above definition) including clues formatted in words, pictures and sounds.
    2. A Company dedicated to bringing to your club, pub, hotel or function an entertaining host to run a Complete Trivia Quiz on the night of your choice that will increase your attendance and bar sales progressively.

But really there's lots to say about Complete Trivia and I'll be saying it soon. Just wanted to get a few facts down first! Oh yeah there is one more definition before we throw the dictionary back on the bookshelf -

    Trivia Maniac
Meaning: A person or persons who are addicted to trivia quizzes and will not rest until the answer to a question is correct. Are you one? Will you stay up till all hours searching and reading for a piece of information you're interested in?
